During a police operation, the German authorities detained the alleged operator of one of the largest darknet markets, called DarkMarket.
According to police, the site attracted about 500,000 users and 2,400 merchants displayed their wares. The market processed at least 320,000 transactions, amounting to 4,650 BTC and 12,800 XMR (about 140 million euros).
A 34-year-old Australian citizen was arrested on suspicion of running DarkMarket, according to a statement from German prosecutors. The detention was carried out on the border between Germany and Denmark.
The police stopped the work of more than 20 servers located in Moldova and Ukraine, while the data from the servers will help in revealing the identities of users and merchants of the underground site.
The main merchandise on DarkMarket was narcotic, but counterfeit money, stolen credit cards, anonymous SIM cards, and even malware were also available.
Recall that the darknet marketplace White House Market has abandoned bitcoin.
